Four-lane Georgia 400 has replaced the backroads that were popular many years ago with the region’s moonshiner runners, many of whom went on to become NASCAR champions. Today the community still champions its colorful moonshine and auto racing history, but also sports a mix of upscale shopping, dining, lodging, golf and other amenities. The region has become a popular destination for weekend getaways, day-trips and vacations, with many visitors making the transition to part-time or full-time resident status over time.
